Gulp SRAfter deliberating on which model to buy next, Toose decided to try the very sweet looking Gulp SR from Steve Drake. The criteria were 60", speed and DSable. The Gulp SR was certainly a good candidate.

The kit arrived in good time and the quality of the materials was second to none. The already perfectly shaped fuse has to be seen to be believed and the wings are just perfect. A truly superb cutting job. All other hardware, other than tape, were supplied.
The instructions were quite detailed, and in some cases, quite humurous (buy the kit and youll see what I mean). Some of the text instructions were confusing however the wide use of diagrams clarified any questions. Radio installation is pretty straight forward with no real issues.

The Gulp SR is a reasonably easy plane to build, although I wouldnt recommend it to a beginner builder. The setup on the plane is absolutely cruital as the linkages are sealed inside the fuse. Any corrections or adjustments to throws etc MUST be done PRIOR to joining the wing to the fuse. You only get one chance.
The Gulp SR is truly a dream to fly. It is extremely fast and covers vast amounts of sky quickly and gracefully. It has a real "sailplane" look and feel about it. Its manouverability is good, quite pitch sensative and a roll rate thats up there with the best 60" planes. Inverted flight is good with very little down elevator required.

Although the Gulp SR has only done a few DS passes on a turbulent day, it has all the components of a DS plane. Smoother air should allow it to DS well, but only with glassed elevons as without it is pointless. Elevon flex becomes a major problem at high speed which results in loss of control.
Its general flight characteristics are very good, but it can be prone to tip stall if you try to bang a turn too hard in light lift, which is not uncommon for planks. But one thing that does stand out from the crowd about the Gulp SR is its looks. This is by far the best looking 60" foamie on the market. In fact, Im sure it will even convert a few crunchie fliers into buying EPP.

A great plane with looks to match.
